Last week fragments of suspected asbestos containing material was found in the soil behind the health hub building. The area was immediately cordoned off to keep students, staff and visitors safe. The area was sprayed with a dust suppressant and temporary fencing has been installed.
School Infrastructure NSW engaged an independent hygienist to conduct testing on Tuesday 2 November 2022. Testing confirmed the material as bonded asbestos which means it is attached to other material such as cement or vinyl and cannot be crumbled by light pressure.
We will keep the community updated and inform you of the date of remediation works when this is confirmed.
The area will be remediated in accordance with SafeWork NSW regulations and the NSW Department of Education's Asbestos Managment Plan. All work will be completed by licensed and accredited independent asbestos contractors, and monitored by occupational hygienists in strict accordance with all applicable legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines.
The area will be inspected to ensure the area has been fully remediated and the school will receive a clearance certificate once remediation work is completed.
